13 Seater and Larger Minibus and Coach Hire With Driver
Minibuses above 12 seats run from 13 up to about 26 passengers before the vehicle becomes a coach. A 16 seater is the most common size in this bracket and costs roughly £140 to £260 for an airport transfer or £390 to £550 for a full day.
This is the bracket for school and college trips, full sports squads, conference shuttles and large wedding parties. It is also where luggage stops being a problem, because vehicles at this size normally have a dedicated boot or can tow a trailer.
The sizes you will actually be offered
Fleets cluster around a few real sizes rather than every number. In practice you will be quoted a 16 or 17 seater, which is the workhorse of this bracket, a 20 to 24 seater midi coach, or a 26 seater, which is the largest vehicle most operators still call a minibus. Sizes like 13, 14 and 18 exist but are less common, so a request for one is usually filled with the next size up at a similar price.

School and youth group trips
If the passengers are under 18, ask two specific questions. First, whether the driver holds a current enhanced DBS check, which reputable operators supply as standard for school work. Second, whether the vehicle has three point belts on every seat. Both should be confirmed in writing before you book, and any operator that hesitates on either is the wrong operator.
Where minibus ends and coach begins
Above roughly 26 seats you are into coach territory, which changes the vehicle, the access requirements and the price. Coaches need more room to turn and park, so for narrow village roads or tight city centre pick ups a pair of 16 seaters is sometimes the better answer than one 33 seater. We arrange both.
Smaller group? See the 12 seater or the 8 to 9 seater.
Common questions
How many passengers does a 16 seater minibus carry?
Fifteen passengers plus the driver. As with all UK minibuses, the advertised seat count includes the driver's seat.
Do larger minibuses have proper luggage space?
Usually yes. From 16 seats upward most vehicles have a dedicated boot, and many operators can add a trailer for large groups. This is the main practical advantage over a 12 seater.
Are drivers DBS checked for school trips?
Reputable operators supply enhanced DBS checked drivers as standard for school, college and youth group work. Ask for it to be confirmed in writing when you book.
What is the largest minibus available?
About 26 seats. Above that the vehicle is classed as a coach, which changes access requirements and price. We arrange both.
Can a large minibus reach a village or narrow street?
A 16 seater usually can. A 24 or 26 seater may not. If your pick up is on a narrow lane or in a tight city centre, say so at enquiry stage and two smaller vehicles may be recommended instead.
Straight answers
What we are honest about
- 13, 14 and 18 seat vehicles are uncommon. Requests are usually filled with the next size up.
- Vehicles above 20 seats cannot reach every pick up point. Narrow lanes and tight city streets may need two smaller vehicles.
- Price bands are guidance from published rates, not a quote.
